Our Story

Value-led and Action-Orientated

"I live in the theory-practice gap! I am a mixed-heritage, working-class woman, who grew up on a UK council estate. So you could say I am not your typical academic. Growing up I never imagined that I would go on to complete a PhD in International Social Work. To be honest, when I was 16 even going to university seemed unrealistic.

However, through a series of strange life events, I found myself working some really demanding roles (engineer, youth worker, social worker and humanitarian). As I struggled to find practical solutiuons to complex problems, I realised that my text books weren't always useful in the real-world, I also I leant that harm was often caused by well-intentioned individuals, who did not have knowledge of subject, context or history.

I never lost my passion for creating change, I continue to address complex social problems - racism, sexism, disasters and inequality.  But today I arm myself with knowledge and an appreciation of those who went before me. I utilise social theory and cutting edge research in a way that enables me to take practical, informed and purposeful action.

I passionately believe that we need new innovative ways to address today's urgent social problems.
I bridge the theory-practice gap by creating Ladders4action and I can help you to do the same"
